SvR worked with the Seattle Department of Transportation, the Seattle Pedestrian Master Plan Advisory Group, and other City of Seattle departments to develop the Seattle Pedestrian Master Plan. This city-wide master plan will help bring greater accessibility to Seattle’s neighborhoods and attractions. It will connect pedestrians of all ages and abilities to shopping, schools, libraries, and recreation destinations. To view a draft summary of the Pedestrian Master Plan, click here. The goals of safety, equity, vibrancy, and health framed the development of this plan. The SvR Team examined current conditions, policies, and practices related to the pedestrian experience and environment in Seattle. SvR reviewed intersection geometry, elements of a walkable system, and land use requirements; coordinated with other city-wide plans; and aided in the public involvement. We also clarified design guidelines and standards, outlined an approach to sidewalk and vegetation maintenance, and assisted with funding strategies to achieve plan goals. The SvR Team prepared a GIS-based demand methodology and project prioritization tool. The Pedestrian Master Plan articulates implementation strategies through key projects, program and policy initiatives, and performance measures. The Plan is Web-based to ease access for all users. |
