HISTORIC DISTRICT STREETSCAPES | PORT TOWNSEND, WA

Owner: City of Port Townsend
SvR Role: Civil Engineering
Start Date: 2009
End Date: 2013

SvR Design Company led utilities, street design and GSI development design for multiple blocks in Port Townsend’s historic waterfront district. The project includes water quality upgrades, utility relocation, and roadway regrading and resurfacing. It also shifts the the roadway from a car focused environment to a pedestrian focused streetscape while still accommodating for access and use of the boat dock near the new Port Townsend Maritime Center. The streetscapes include a variety of paving types including brick pavers and curb elevations that contribute to the pedestrian plaza focus. Other improvements include ADA accessibility, a woonerf-type pedestrian and vehicular shared area, and pedestrian plaza. All improvements had to integrate seamlessly with the existing businesses, historic buildings and other park infrastructure including a tide clock and wave gallery.
