GOODWILL JOB TRAINING | SEATTLE, WA
SvR Role: Civil Engineering and
Green Stormwater Infrastructure
Construction Cost: $10 million
Start Date: 2/2011
End Date: 5/2013
Goodwill’s new $10 million job training and education center at their Seattle campus on Rainier Avenue S and S Dearborn Street is a 3 story, 49,600 SF, newly constructed facility. SvR provided civil engineering services including truck turning analysis, design of underground parking, utility services and site design. A particular challenge of the site were poor soils and a steep slope along the east side of the building. SvR designed a subsurface drainage system protection measure to preserve a significant existing oak tree and as extensive green stormwater system. The green stormwater system includes a cistern, cascading stormwater planters and permeable pavements - all working together to attenuate storm water runoff and provide water quality treatment. This system work together to manage 98% of the average annual runoff. The building is expected to achieve LEED Silver.
