COLUMBIA CITY STATION AREA WATER DISTRIBUTION UPGRADE | SEATTLE, WA

Owner: Seattle Housing Authority
SvR Role: Civil Engineering
Start Date: 2000
End Date: 2011

SvR coordinated water distribution design for the Seattle Housing Authority’s Rainier Vista Hope VI project with Sound Transit’s adjacent light rail project constructing the Columbia City Station. Water distribution design included demolition of existing water distribution owned by SHA, temporary connections to maintain existing water distribution, and design of new, City owned water distribution to service the increased density of SHA’s redevelopment. SHA’s phased construction schedule, in conjunction with Sound Transit’s light rail project routed through the middle of SHA’s project, necessitated complex coordination to facilitate a design and sequencing that maintained service, minimized outages, and kept rework to a minimum. In developing the water distribution design, SvR coordinated closely with Sound Transit and SHA to identify which elements of distribution would be constructed by SHA and which would be constructed by Sound Transit.
