Chief Sealth Trail
Seattle, WA

Dense urban cities rarely have the opportunity to build 3.5 miles of new trail, but the City of Seattle did. Hired by the Seattle Department of Transportation, SvR designed the Chief Sealth Trail, which runs 3.5 miles from Beacon Hill south towards the Seattle City limits. A fast-track project, SvR planned and designed the project to coincide with Sound Transit's Link Light Rail construction in Rainier Valley. In a public-private partnership, the contractor RCI Herzog transported the spoils to the Seattle City Light transmission corridor where it was used as the base for the trail.

The trail accommodates a broad range of users: cyclists, pedestrians, and people with disabilities. SvR provided grading, drainage, alignment, and landscape restoration services for the trail. SvR designed plans and specifications to AASHTO Standards and coordinated closely with multiple Seattle agencies.
